You are cordially invited to a lecture/performance by Haale, a talented American-Iranian musician. Haale’s performance will be held on Thursday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 205 of Claude T. Bissell Building (tower north of Robarts Library, 140 St. George Street) at the University of Toronto. I am sending the flyer and the map as attachments. Please disseminate the flyer as widely as possible.

Haale, the acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician, presents a lecture to accompany her live performance. In her presentation, Haale delves into the work of several iconic Iranian poets, exploring the theme of mysticism as it echoes across a millennium’s worth of their verse. Centered around Rumi (whose 800th birthday is celebrated in 2007), Haale visits the many paths to the goal of unity described in Sufi poetic verse and devotional music. Reciting lyrical spoken word adaptations in the original Persian as well as translations in song form, this lecture presentation provides a window into the centrality of art and words in the Sufi spiritual tradition. As Haale develops her own theatrical/multimedia work Fana, this lecture gives insight into her background as an artist and the development of a major new performance piece.
