The Iranian Association at the University of Toronto (IAUT) is pleased to host "Pamela Taylor" for an special International Women's day event on Saturday, March 10th 2007. Pamela Taylo will deliver a talk entitled: " Muslim Women in the Crosshairs". The speech will be followed by a photo exhibition.

Pamela Taylor received her Masters of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. She served as co-chair of the Progressive Muslim union for two years and is the co-founder of Muslims for Progressive Values. She is also a free-lance writer currently writing for the
Newsweek-Washington Post On Faith panel. You can visit her website at:
www.pktaylor. com.

In this talk she will discuss how the intersection of Fundamentalism and Authoritarianism/ Totalitarianism negatively impacts Muslim women. She will address the surge in the popularity of fundamentalist thinking (although not all are necessarily fundamentalist, some of
them are actually highly revisionist, but position themselves as a return to true Islamic values) and the trend toward totalitarianism in Islamic societies. The fundamentalist upsurge is a global phenomenon (the Christian right here in the US, Hindu nationalism in India) and it seems that the expansion of government into private lives is moving forward on many fronts as well. She will further elaborate on how this very negatively impacts Muslim women.

Time: Saturday, March 10th 2007, 4:00PM to 7:00PM.
Location: Room 4422, OISE, 252 Bloor Street West.
